Wide handlebars add comfort when youre piloting over rough terrain. Think of how mtb bars are so much wider than road bars. The 3T Ergoterra Team handlebar uses the Ergosum bars drop and reach dimensions, but both widens the bar and flares the ends for greater comfort.
The Ergosum has 89mm of reach and 128mm of drop. As does the Ergoterra. The shape is both compact and ergonomic. To make your wrists more comfortable, and your arms in a more powerful position, they flared the ends, starting just below the hoods, by six degrees. This means the 45cm center-to-center size is 42cm at the hoods. And the 47cm size is 44cm at the hoods. The hoods are still perpendicular to the ground, but your arms and elbows are out, and your forearms have more clearance from the bars when youre in the drops as well.
Because this is an off-road bar, think cyclocross, think gravel epics, they added some layers of shock absorption in with the carbon. They also reinforced the center section. This way, you can install either secondary brake levers or aero extensions, depending on your needs.
With these features, the bars could be an ideal way to make your quiver-killer steed. They are as light as climbing bars can get, but theyre wide for off-road comfort, and they can be adorned with any number of secondary elements. You could take these mountain biking as well as road racing.
Even with all these design features added, the bars are still super-light. They weigh 200g for the narrower 42cm (at the hoods) size.
